Week ahead, 26 – 30 October 2026: five central banks, one GDP, one PCE

Week ahead forex calendar, 26–30 October 2026: Fed hold at 3.75–4.00% expected, ECB at 2.50%, BoJ at 1.25%, US Q3 GDP and September PCE on Thursday.

3.6%. That is the consensus for the US PCE price index in September, against 3.4% in August, and it lands on Thursday 29 October at 12:30 UTC, in the same release as the first estimate of Q3 GDP. This week ahead forex calendar for 26 to 30 October 2026 carries five central bank decisions in three days: the Reserve Bank of New Zealand and the Bank of Canada on Wednesday, the Federal Reserve on Wednesday evening, the European Central Bank on Thursday and the Bank of Japan on Friday morning.

A week ahead is a short list of scheduled releases, the previous print for each, and the consensus where a poll exists. It tells you when volatility is scheduled, not where price will go. Three numbers frame this list: the Fed at 3.75 to 4.00%, the ECB deposit rate at 2.50%, the BoJ at 1.25%. The previous week ahead was an inflation week without a Fed. This one is the Fed's week, and the clocks have moved: Europe switched to winter time on 25 October, the United States switches on 1 November, so US releases reach a Paris screen one hour earlier than in September.

What does the FOMC meeting of October 2026 decide?

The decision is published on Wednesday 28 October at 18:00 UTC, 19:00 in Paris, with the press conference at 18:30 UTC. On 16 September the Committee raised the target range by 25 basis points to 3.75 to 4.00%, by a 12-0 vote, and wrote that inflation remains elevated. Since then the September CPI has printed 3.7% on the year, core 2.6%, energy up 20.4% and gasoline up 34.2% over twelve months.

The consensus is a hold. A Reuters poll relayed by Newsquawk has 94 of 100 economists expecting no change; Trading Economics puts the market-implied probability of a hike at about 9% for October and above 80% for December. There are no projections at this meeting, so the two things to read are the wording on inflation and the number of dissents. Three regional presidents voted for a hike in July, before the Committee moved as one in September.

Why do the ECB and the Bank of Japan decide within fourteen hours of each other?

The ECB publishes at 13:15 UTC on Thursday, 14:15 in Paris, with President Lagarde at 13:45 UTC. The deposit rate stands at 2.50% after 25 basis point hikes on 11 June and 10 September. Euro area inflation reached 3.8% in September, up from 3.2% in August, with energy at 18.9% and services at 3.2%. No projections until 17 December. A hold is expected.

The Bank of Japan closes its two-day meeting on Friday 30 October. The statement has no fixed time and usually arrives between 02:30 and 04:00 UTC, with Governor Ueda at 06:30 UTC. The policy rate has been 1.25% since 18 September, the highest since 1995, by a 7-2 vote. This meeting carries the quarterly Outlook Report, so the inflation forecasts matter as much as the rate. A hold is expected.

Two smaller decisions open Wednesday. The RBNZ publishes at 01:00 UTC with the cash rate at 2.75% after a hike on 2 September; the Newsquawk consensus is 3.00%. The Bank of Canada publishes at 13:45 UTC at 2.25%, unchanged since 2 September, with a Monetary Policy Report; Canadian CPI printed 3.1% in September and the Trading Economics consensus is 2.50%.

What do US GDP Q3 2026 and the September PCE add on Thursday?

One timestamp, three numbers. At 12:30 UTC on Thursday the BEA publishes the advance estimate of Q3 GDP and the September personal income and outlays report in the same minute, with weekly jobless claims alongside. Q2 GDP was revised to 2.2% annualised on 30 September, after 2.5% in Q1. The consensus for Q3 sits between 3.0 and 3.2%; the Atlanta Fed's GDPNow model reads 3.5%.

The PCE price index rose 0.3% in August and 3.4% on the year; core rose 0.2% and 3.0%. The consensus for September is 0.5% and 3.6% headline, 0.3% and 3.1% core, which Trading Economics describes as the biggest monthly rise since March. Claims were 194,000. This release lands twenty hours after the FOMC statement and forty-five minutes before the ECB, so Thursday 12:30 UTC is the densest window of the week for EUR/USD.

Friday adds the growth side of Europe: euro area flash GDP for Q3 at 10:00 UTC after 0.6% on the quarter, consensus 0.2%; Germany 0.1% expected after 0.3%. Australia's monthly CPI on Wednesday at 00:30 UTC follows 4.0% in August, trimmed mean 3.6%; the consensus is 4.2%.

What does it mean for your sessions?

The FOMC at 18:00 UTC is a late New York event, 19:00 in Paris, after London has closed, so liquidity around it is thinner than at a 12:30 UTC release. The BoJ is the exception in the other direction: its statement has no fixed time, and spreads on JPY pairs can stay wide from 02:30 UTC until the headline.

Thursday is the day to size with care. US GDP, PCE and claims print at 12:30 UTC, the ECB follows at 13:15 UTC and Lagarde speaks at 13:45 UTC. A position opened on the data and still open at the decision is exposed twice. Earnings from Microsoft and Alphabet on Wednesday and Amazon on Thursday arrive around 20:00 UTC and move index futures first. None of this says which way anything goes. It says when the spread moves and when a stop is more likely to be filled away from its level.

What your journal would show

On illustrative demo data, a trader who ran 40 trades in the 19 to 23 October week had an expectancy of 0.12R. The two trades opened inside the five minutes after the UK CPI release averaged -0.42R; the eleven trades opened between 07:00 and 10:00 UTC averaged 0.31R. A read-only journal makes that split visible, by hour, session and instrument, in R-multiples rather than currency.

For this week the same view answers one question: how did your trades behave in the hour after the FOMC decision of 16 September and the ECB decision of 10 September. If your best trading hours have never included 18:00 UTC, you can see where the 28 October evening belongs. Socius Trades reads your cTrader or MetaTrader history, computes the split, and never places a trade. We look. We never touch.
