Week ahead, 12 – 16 October 2026: US CPI, retail sales and a Bangkok fireside chat

Week ahead forex calendar, 12–16 October 2026: US CPI at a 3.6% consensus Wednesday, retail sales and PPI Thursday, Beige Book, Chair Warsh in Bangkok.

3.6%. That is the consensus for US headline inflation in September, against 3.4% in August, and it lands on Wednesday 14 October at 12:30 UTC. This week ahead forex calendar for 12 to 16 October 2026 is a data week, not a decision week: no G10 central bank meets, but the United States publishes CPI on Wednesday, then retail sales and PPI on Thursday, with the Beige Book and the first large bank earnings in between. The week opens on a holiday: US dollar bond trading is closed for Columbus Day, Tokyo is shut, and the IMF and World Bank meetings begin in Bangkok.

A week ahead is a short list of scheduled releases, the previous print for each, and the consensus where a poll exists. It tells you when volatility is scheduled, not where price will go. Three numbers frame this list: US CPI at 3.4%, US retail sales up 1.2% in August, UK GDP up 0.4% in July. The previous week ahead covered the FOMC minutes and the ISM services PMI.

What will the US CPI September 2026 report show on Wednesday?

The August report put headline inflation at 3.4% on the year and 0.4% on the month. Core rose 0.3% and 2.4%. Energy was up 16.3% over twelve months, gasoline 27.4%.

The September consensus is 0.6% on the month and 3.6% on the year, with core slowing to 0.2% and 2.5%. That split is the release. A headline driven by energy and a core at 0.2% are two different documents for a Committee that raised its range to 3.75% to 4.00% on 16 September and meets again on 27 and 28 October. Producer prices follow on Thursday: final demand rose 5.4% in the year to August; the September consensus is 0.5% on the month and 5.3% on the year.

Why does US retail sales September 2026 matter after a 1.2% August?

August retail sales rose 1.2% on the month to $773.9 billion, 1.4% excluding autos, after a July decline revised to -0.5%. The figures are nominal: with gasoline up 27.4% on the year, part of that growth is price, not volume.

The September consensus is 0.3%, and 0.5% excluding autos. Retail sales, PPI, jobless claims and the Philadelphia Fed index all print at 12:30 UTC on Thursday, four releases in one second. Claims were 197,000, with 195,000 expected; the Philadelphia Fed index was 37.8, with 26.5 expected.

What do the Beige Book October 2026 and a Bangkok fireside chat add?

The Beige Book is anecdotal, not statistical, and rarely moves price on its own. Its timing matters: Wednesday 18:00 UTC, between CPI and retail sales. The other Fed event is in Bangkok. Chair Kevin Warsh holds a fireside chat with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva at 23:30 Washington time on Thursday, 03:30 UTC on Friday, the Chair's first remarks after the week's two main prints.

Elsewhere, the Reserve Bank of Australia publishes on Tuesday the minutes of the 29 September meeting that raised the cash rate 25 basis points to 4.60%, unanimously. The September labour force survey follows on Thursday at 00:30 UTC: August added 39,000 jobs, all part-time, with unemployment at 4.6%; the consensus is 20,000 and 4.6%. The United Kingdom publishes August GDP at 06:00 UTC the same day. July grew 0.4% after 0.3% in June; the polls range from -0.1% to -0.4%, and the Office for National Statistics reopens the full series for revision in this release. The euro area closes the week with final September inflation on Friday at 09:00 UTC; the flash was 3.8%, energy 18.8%, core 2.5%. The ECB decides next on 29 October.

What it means for your sessions

Three things change this week. First, a hollow Monday: with US dollar fixed income shut and Tokyo closed, liquidity in USD and JPY pairs is thinner than the calendar suggests. Second, two 12:30 UTC clusters: Wednesday's CPI is one number, Thursday's is four releases at once, and the first minute after a cluster is where fills slip furthest from the quote. Third, a pre-dawn Friday: the Chair speaks at 03:30 UTC, when a position held from Europe is unattended.

None of this tells you where the dollar will trade. It tells you when your broker's spread will widen. Your best trading hours move when the volatility moves. Your drawdown decides how many 12:30 clusters you can afford to be wrong on.

What your journal would show

Illustrative demo data. A trader takes 92 trades over the last six US CPI weeks. On the six CPI days, 21 trades average -0.19R; 13 of the 21 were opened between 12:00 and 13:00 UTC, and 9 of those 13 closed at the stop within thirty minutes of the release. On the other days, 71 trades average 0.11R. On three holiday Mondays in the sample, 6 trades averaged -0.31R on a spread 1.8 times the weekly median.

That is not a rule about CPI or about Columbus Day. It is a pattern in one account. A read-only journal that imports your closed trades from cTrader or MetaTrader and stamps each one with the time and the R-multiple makes the pattern visible without tagging. Socius Trades reads your executed trades and shows results by hour, by day and by instrument; it never places or modifies a trade. Plans start with a free tier, and the Essential plan has a 14-day trial, listed on the pricing page. The same view would show whether a stop at 12:34 UTC was followed by a larger size at 12:50, the revenge trading signature.
